I’ve been asked many times, why there are weeks when I don’t write my column. Well, it’s fairly simple. So, here we go.
All of my articles are written about true events, which I’ve experienced or witnessed. I make up nothing, which is a sad testament to my writing skills. I’m not a writer...I’m a story teller. A relayer of events. A reporter of insignificant occurrences. And I absolutely love it.
Not belittling my exciting surroundings, but in my neck of the woods ...often, there’s not a whole lot going on other than critters, the mail, work and health issues.
And there are limitations, as well. Recently, my Texan cousins came down and stayed with me. They’re a couple of upstanding, hard working, successful men, but when they come down here; they unwind...with a drink or two. Or three or four. I suppose that I could’ve written about their visit. But dadgum, the funniest parts of their stay were when they were three sheets to the wind. So, I figured that I’d steer clear and stay in the slow lane.
Also, I actually have a good heart and desperately want folks to live long and be happy. So naturally, I don’t want to bore anybody to death. And y’all, more often than not... my days are pretty boring. A typical day, in my life, consists of house cleaning, feeding critters, earning a nickel or two , going to Brooks Store, checking the mail, and eating fiber. The most exciting thing that I did yesterday was paint my toenails. And good Lord, they needed it. I painted them silver, by the way. I have no excuse for this; other than the fact that if nothing else is exciting in my life...the toenails are. They’re quite flashy and not unlike my Texan cousins...living it up, while hiding down low.
Last week, I did something funny, though. I did it...by NOT doing it. I mowed half the yard, before realizing that I never lowered the blade. I spent half an hour cutting air. That’s it, y’all. That’s all I’ve got. That and the silver toenails is all of the excitement that I could muster up in a week.
But who knows what this week holds in store? Shoot, I might paint my toenails gold.
Have a blessed one, my friends! Eat your fiber and keep writing, because I do love my mail!
