Parish Playoff Picture - The LHSAA playoff picture has been narrowed to just two teams as Bogalusa and Pine move on to the second round of the DIII playoffs.
5 Bogalusa will host 12 Loreauville this week in Bogalusa. Winner plays the winner of the 20 Port Allen - 4 Union Parish game. If Bogalusa is successful, they would host Port Allen but go to Union Parish.
7 Pine is traveling to 23 Avoyelles. Avoyelles upset Kinder on the road and that is why the game is at Avoyelles. Winner plays the winner of 18 Mansfield - 2 Sterlington. If Pine is successful, they would play Mansfield at home but go to Sterlington.
Notes and Quotes
The LHSAA football playoff travel rules advise that beginning in the third round (quarterfinals) the highest seed (lowest number) hosts.
"Yes, we made adjustments. But the big thing is James Owens gave us life early in the second half. He made us believe and Ethan Rester played his best half of football in the second half. Once Chris returned the fumble on the kickoff there was no doubt we were going to win. Down 16-0 and after two plays of offense in the second half it was 24-16. Unbelievable. There were adjustments but it was our kids not quitting that was the difference."
---Pine coach Bradley Seal
"It was a tough game. White Castle has a good football team. You always hate the last game for your seniors. We only had two but they are awesome kids. Tyriq Bell, our quarterback, is a quiet leader and Chase Lewis, our middle linebacker, is the most hard nose kid on our team. It was a blessing getting to coach those two kids. I'm going to miss them. They earned a ton of respect from their teammates and coaches. The good news is we get everyone else back. We have to learn to be more physical and tackle better. We have a good group of kids we just have to get tougher. That's definitely a point of emphasis during the off season. For now, it is time to take a few weeks and reflect and spend some time with my own kids."
---Varnado coach Adam Brumfield
"This team has a heart of a warrior. They play hard and they love playing the game of football. They have embraced the hard work all year long and have risen to the occasion. We now have ourselves in a position to play for a state championship. I'm just humbled to be part of such a great school and program. We ask that everyone come out and support us as we represent Washington Parish."
- -- Bowling Green coach Jason Johnson
"This season has been full of adversity. We started the year with only three returning starters and very little playing experience. Our guys made a commitment to this program and to getting better which has shown down the stretch. We won two of our last three regular season games to get in the playoffs which is a great accomplishment for this young team. I couldn't be more proud of the foundation these guys have laid. On our playoff matchup, Ascension Catholic is a great program with championship tradition. They have a great team and I am proud of the fight our guys showed until the end."
---Central Private coach Cole Holden.
"Tough, gritty, rainy game that we needed. Our kids fought hard on both sides of the ball. Defense was paced by Darell Frazier with multiple tackles and a scoop and score touchdown. Special teams were stellar. Nate Graves was a perfect 3 of 3 on extra points. My young team is growing up and we have to because second round opponent Sumner comes back to Amite."
----Amite coach Zephaniah Powell
