There will be local ceremonies honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country in uniform.
• On Sunday, May 29, the Varnado Store Museum will present its traditional Memorial Day ceremony on Cleveland Street next to the museum.
The ceremony will begin at 2:00 pm, and will feature a 21-gun salute by American Legion Post 24, as well as other salutes to our deceased service members.
The museum is located at the corner of Pearl Street and Cleveland Street in downtown Franklinton. Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony.
• On Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, another ceremony will be held. This one will be at the site of the planned Our Veterans Memorial Park off of Highway 10 on Dollar Road in the middle of the parish. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m., and the guest speaker is State Sen. Beth Mizell. American Legion Post 24 will perform the 21-gun salute.
Organizers welcome everyone to attend. Those attending will want to bring a lawn chair.
