A crowd gathered at the Mount Hermon Ruritan Club this past Saturday for a significant occasion: The 75th anniversary of the club’s founding.
The national president of Ruritan, Glen Broadwater or Virginia, was present, along with local elected officials and friends and relatives of Ruritan members.
Past presidents of the club and widows of deceased members were recognized, and a 60-year member, Billy Ray Gill, was honored.
The club was chartered on June 27, 1947, with 21 men from the Mount Hermn area as the initial members. They were dedicated to friendship, goodwill and community service, and those principles continue to guide the club today, all these years later.
