A one-year old baby was killed Sunday morning in the Vernon Community west of Franklinton when the car he was riding in crashed on Highway 440 near the Highway 450 intersection.
Louisiana State Police reported that Caisen Williams, 1, of the Mount Hermon area, was not restrained within the vehicle and was ejected when the crash occurred. He was pronouned dead at the scene of the accident.
Troopers said the infant was riding in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala that was westbound on Highway 440. The car traveled off the road to the right, became airborne, and then overturned.
The car was driven by Caitlin Williams, also of te Mount Hermon area. He, too, was also unrestrained and suffered serious injuries in the accident.
Impairment is not suspected, but other findings from the accident investigation will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration of possible criminal or traffic violations.
Citing the tragedy of young Caisen’s death, troopers from the State Police issued a reminder that every occupant of a motor verhicle is required by law to be properly restrained. Child safety seats provide he best protection for children in the event of an accident.
Sunday’s fatal accident in the Vernon community occurred not far from where two motorists from the Kentwood area were killed in an accident only three weeks earlier.
