It was nice to feel a little cooler, even if it was for a day or two. Now when I say cooler, I mean not so humid and a little breezy. I hope you all had a great week. I am excited to have Labor Day off, not only because it is a holiday, but it is my sweet mama’s 84th birthday! We will be eating lunch at Chimes that day, and next weekend we will be going to meet up at my cousin’s restaurant, Charles Seafood, in Harahan. Several of mama’s cousins and the rest of us plan to meet up there for an impromptu reunion and birthday celebration.
Sunday, September 7th will be Enon Baptist Church’s High Attendance Day and Reenrollment Day in Sunday School. Breakfast will be provided before Sunday School, and everyone is encouraged to dress casually.
We are taking donations for Operation Christmas Child, we need wash cloths, coloring books, socks, toys, purse size Kleenex, combs, and $15 for postage.
September 26-27 is the Bogalusa Blues & Heritage Festival. They will have many wonderful performers, and I am most definitely looking forward to seeing Chris Thomas King. He was in the movie O Brother Where Art Thou? If you knew my daddy, you knew he loved music of all kinds and this movie, and the music was one of his favorites. I plan to go see him because I feel like that gives me a connection, and his voice and music is so good.
It is hard to believe that 20 years ago Hurricane Katrina came barreling through. There are so many stories and memories. Each person has their own recollection of what happened and how things went down. Some things I honestly do not remember because I was busy with my 3-month-old baby Gracie. I am grateful for the people God sent to us to help, no matter if it was here at home, or where we were between Alabama and Tennessee. Sheba Turk, a former news anchor from Channel 4 made the comment, “We’ll never forget, but also maybe it’s ok to not remember too hard.” (She was 16 years old when it came through and lost everything.) I felt this part of it as well.
