The Enon Library recently celebrated another successful Summer Reading Program graduation, recognizing hundreds of young readers who accepted the challenge of reading at least five books during their summer break.
Graduation day was filled with excitement, laughter, and plenty of fun as children and their families gathered to celebrate their accomplishments. One of the highlights of the day was a special visit from the Washington Parish Fire District No. 8, whose firefighters brought a fire truck and gave an entertaining and educational demonstration that delighted children of all ages. The Enon Library extends its sincere appreciation to the firefighters for taking the time to make the celebration such a memorable experience.
The library would also like to express its heartfelt thanks to the Friends of the Library for their generous financial support, which helps make programs like these possible. Additional gratitude goes to the Greater Baton Rouge Arts Council for providing funding for the talented performers who entertained and inspired our young readers throughout the summer.
The Summer Reading Program is designed to encourage children to continue reading while school is out. Research has shown that regular reading during the summer helps children maintain—and often improve—their reading skills, reducing the learning loss that can occur during the break. By completing the program, each graduate demonstrated a commitment to reading and learning throughout the summer months.
"We are incredibly proud of every child who participated," said the Manager, Mrs. Winola Holliday. "Seeing hundreds of children complete the program reminds us how important these opportunities are for encouraging a lifelong love of reading."
The Enon Library thanks all of the families, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who helped make this year's Summer Reading Program such a tremendous success. With the continued support of our community, we look forward to inspiring even more young readers next summer.
