Ernestine Penton Jones Lawson, age 89 of Franklinton, Louisiana, died early Saturday morning October 10, 2026 at Fair City Health and Rehab. She was born in Franklinton on January 9, 1937 and was a lifelong resident of Washington Parish. Ernestine was known for her devotion to her family and her generosity to anyone in need. When she was not spending time with her family, she enjoyed reading and cooking. Ernestine was a member at Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Franklinton and loved the Lord.
She is survived by 4 Sons and Daughters in law: Greg and Brenda Jones, Tony and Robin Jones, Jeff and Christy Jones and Michael and Frances Jones, 2 Daughters and Sons in law: Danette and Kevin Jenkins and LaWanda and Todd Duenckel, 23 Grandchildren, 21 Great-grandchildren, 3 Great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her son Mark Jones, husbands John Robert Jones and Louis Lawson parents Erwin Penton and Josephine Stogner Penton, Great-grandson Reid Smith and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Friday October 16, 2026 from10:00 am until 2:00pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Friday with Eld. Don McDaniel and Eld. Jason Matheny officiating. Burial will follow in the Crain’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are her 7 grandsons: John Jones, Justin Jones, Chris Jones, Brandon James, Anthony Jones, Jesse Jones, Luke Duenckel.
The family was served by Crain Funeral Home of Franklinton.
