The Franklinton Demons baseball team had a solid week last week as they opened the regular season at Demon Diamond. The Demons defeated Albany 8-0, Independence 10-0, Newman 6-4 and dropped games to Fontainebleau and Pope John Paul.
Against Albany the Demons scored first when Da'Ron Sinceno singled to lead off, JoJo Burkhalter drew a walk, both runners advanced on a wild pitch and a ground out allowed Sinceno to score. The Demons added two more in the third as Elisha Hart drew a lead off walk before Burkhalter singled and Dalton Freeman reached on an error to load the bases. Kaedyn Jenkins singled in two runs for a 3-0 Demons lead.
The Demons scored another run in the fourth before breaking the game open in the sixth as three consecutive batters reached on base on balls. A sacrifice fly by Hart pushed across a run before a wild pitch allowed a run to plate and Freeman then singled in two runs for what would be the final of 8-0. The Hornets then put two runners on with two outs in the top of the seventh but a runner was called for interference and the game was over.
Offensively for the Demons Cayman Pugh had a double while Da'Ron Sinceno, JoJo Burkhalter, Kaedyn Jenkins and Dalton Freeman each had singles.
On the mound for the Demons Freeman struck out five, walked two and gave up three hits through five innings. Jordy Thomassen pitched two innings and struck out one, allowed one hit and walked three.
The Demons will travel to play in the Westlake tournament and are scheduled to play Westlake on Friday before playing Buckey and Iowa on Saturday.
