The Franklinton High Lady Demons and Demons basketball teams travelled to Varnado last Thursday for a pair of non-district games. Both Franklinton teams were victorious with some hard fought, high intensity action between the teams.
The Lady Demons tipped off the evening with a non-district game with the Varnado Lady Wildcats. Varnado led after the first quarter 12-10 before the Lady Demons upped their defensive pressure to hold them to just three points in the second for a 21-15 lead at halftime. Varnado roared back in the third quarter as they scored eighteen to the Lady Demons seven for a 33-28 Wildcat lead after three periods of play. The Lady Demons responded with a great fourth period as they scored eighteen while holding the Lady Wildcats to just five for a final of 46-38, giving the Lady Demons the win.
A'mia Bickham had fifteen points, Jazirya Roberts had eleven, Jailynne Webb had six, Jaliyah Bickham had four, Alandria Warner had two and Akeilee McClain one.
The Demons went up against the Varnado Wildcats in the evening finale with the game being a tight affair with the Demons managing a slim 16-12 lead after the first period. The Demons increased their lead early in the second quarter with a 10-2 run and led 39-25 at the halftime intermission.
In the third period the Demons and the Wildcats had a close one with the Demons scoring twelve to the Wildcats eleven for a 52-36 score. In the fourth, with multiple reserves seeing action the Demons scored twenty points to the Wildcats nine for a final of 72-45.
Jaiden Garrett led the game with 23 points. Omira Williams had 19, RJ Hart had 15, Demarcus Magee and Sy Austin each had six points while Jayden Burkhalter had two.
