Game of the Week - Franklinton (2-3) at Hannan (4-1) Their records indicate these two teams are on different trajectories. But the Demons are fully intent on proving this wrong. After a ridiculously tough first half of the season the Demons are looking to bounce back and the Hawks just happen to be in the way!
The Demons offense got on track last week and the defense looks to catch up. If they can put the two halves together, they will be hard to stop.
The Hannan Hawks have been overlooked for the last several seasons and are looking for some respect. Knocking off the Demons would be a good start in that endeavor.
Whichever team can run the ball efficiently and stop the run will win this one.
Should be a good one!
Notes and Quotes
The Carroll High school football team and the Assumption High football teams have been penalized by the LHSAA after a major altercation last week immediately following their game which was won by Assumption. Carroll has had their football season ended for this season and Assumption has had all of their remaining home games turned into road games.
Reportedly, numerous Carroll football players jumped on and physically assaulted some Assumption fans when the game was over.
Of note, Assumption does not have a visitor's side in their stadium which played a part leading up to the altercation.
Also of note, the Franklinton Demon's opponent this week, the Hannan Hawks, do not have a visitor set of stands as all fans sit on the same side.
The Albany Hornets football team has forfeited their two wins this season for an ineligible player. This makes them 0-4 on the season.
"First, credit Lutcher. They have a great program. Defensively, we struggled to get off the field on third down. They ran the ball extremely well and we struggled to stop them. I do think we are a better defensive football team than we showed in this game. Offensively, we played well overall, but shot ourselves in the foot with untimely penalties especially early on. I still believe we have a good football team. There are lots of lessons to be learned moving forward and as we move into district play, I am confident our kids will respond the right way down the stretch." ---Franklinton coach Nick Saltaformaggio
"It was a good team win. I thought we played well in all phases. Next week is a big game for our team. We start district and will be getting several starters back for the second half of the season." --- Pine coach Bradley Seal
"The Jacks won a huge game and gained a lot of confidence in the process. For the first time all season they learned to finish and put a team away. After squandering several red zone opportunities in the first half the Lumberjacks went into halftime tied 6-6. After the half they kicked it into another gear with three offensive touchdowns and two defensive touchdowns to seal the game with a 38-6 victory. The Jacks are improving each week but must improve their tackling, offensive execution and special teams play. Next week the Lumberjacks travel back to New Orleans to take on a 4-1 Booker T Washington team. Go Jacks!"
--- Bogalusa coach Larry Harold
"Tough loss for us. We fought hard and had our chances, but we didn't make enough plays when we needed to. Playing bigger schools, depth becomes an issue but we have to find a way to overcome that. We'll learn from it and get back to work." --- Varnado coach Vonta Owens
"At half it was 14-6. Both teams were battling. Second half things just didn't go our way. I told the guys we just have to keep fighting and keep battling." --- Bowling Green coach Dean King
