FHS principal Shane Smith has been elected as Vice President of the LHSAA Executive Committee. This was done at last weeks LHSAA principals convention.
In other news from the convention a proposal to allow a one-transfer for student athletes where in they would be immediately eligible at their next school was voted down by a huge margin, 273-66. The rule of transfers having to sit out a year will remain in effect.
A second proposal that had garnered a lot of interest was approved. This proposal will have schools that file a lawsuit against the LHSAA banned from the playoffs in the sport the lawsuit is filed about and other sanctions from the LHSAA could be imposed.
This proposal came about after University high in Baton Rouge filed a lawsuit after they were removed from the football playoffs after they were found to have ineligible players during the season. This lawsuit nearly caused the football playoffs to be delayed, which would have caused significant changes to the football playoffs not to mention the monetary costs associated with any delay. Newman high also had a recent lawsuit involving their basketball team which added to this situation being addressed.
