Friday afternoon and into Friday evening firefighters from across Washington Parish and from several nearby parishes and counties were battling a major wildfire in the area of Ball Town Road, near Angie.
According to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, there were no evacuation orders at of 5:45 p.m., but residents in the area were advised to stay aware and to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
The Sheriff's Office is also asking all persons not involved in the firefighting operation to stay well clear of the area, both for personal safety and to avoid impeding the firefighting efforts.
A Burn Ban is in place in Washington Parish due to extremely dry conditions. All residents are asked by the Parish Government to heed the Burn Ban, which prohibits any outdoors fires.
