On Sunday, March 2, 2025, at approximately 7 pm five people were shot in Franklinton.
Franklinton Police Officers and Washington Parish Sheriff’s Deputies were in the immediate vicinity and provided life-saving care to the victims until they were subsequently transported to area hospitals. The shootings occurred alongside Washington Street immediately to the east of downtown Franklinton, and followed the Krewe of Pepe parade.
Franklinton police arrested Jamerian Anders, 18, and charged him with 5 counts of attempted first-degree murder. Additional suspects are being sought for questioning. Police have indicated that the shootings were gang related. Anders is a resident of Jenkins Road and is being held without bond in the Washington Parish Jail. He was booked at 8:32 p.m. Sunday. If indicted and then convicted, Anders is facing a significant prison sentence for the 5 attempted first-degree murder charges.
As of early Monday morning (March 3) two victims were treated and released. Two victims were reported in stable but guarded condition and one victim has been listed in critical condition.
During the course of the parade and apparently not related to the shooting, Franklinton officers arrested two local juveniles who were found to be in possession of firearms on the Krewe of Pepe Sunday parade route. The juveniles were also armed within a school zone, which is an additional felony.
In addition, an earlier threat of gunshots caused Franklinton police officers to come into contact with an individual found to be in possession of an AR-15 style rifle.
Franklinton detectives are continuing the shooting investigation with support from the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office.
