Former Demon #3 Brian "BJ" Dykes threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the FHS vs Sumner game on Friday, February 27.
BJ is a 2009 graduate of FHS where he was an honor student and member of the National Beta Club. He was a 1st team all-district defensive back and four year football letterman for Coach Shane Smith and played in the Lake Ponchatrain All Star game. BJ was also a two year letterman in basketball.
A four-year baseball letterman and all district selection for former Coach Jeff Tagant, he was also named to the Academic All state team.
In the early days when Demon Diamond was only a field and dugouts, fans watched BJ roam centerfield and showcase his speed tracking down fly balls. Those who watched him closely will recall a slight shake of his glove which always signaled he was about to make a catch.
BJ will forever be remembered for his role in making Demon Baseball a first-class program. Sadly, a car accident on March 6, 2023 stole the use of his legs but take a look at his million dollar smile or have a visit, and one will realize that BJ has not let this slow him down in any way.
A large group of family and friends were on hand including parents Brian and Lisa McCant along with his children Braylinn, Brian Jr. and Jersey and his bonus kids KJ Williams, Jayce Magee, and Jalayah Gardner. Uncle Darryl Abron and wife Unchetta and godmother Cerissa Burris were also present.
Catching him was his 13-year classmate in the Franklinton School system and lifelong friend, former FHS catcher and current Belle Chasse High School head baseball coach Evan Tageant.
