A former Franklinton Junior High School teacher and girls softball coach has been charged by the Franklinton Police Department with numerous counts of inappropriate behavior with juveniles.
Darbie Smith, age 29, turned herself in Friday afternoon (March 21) at the Franklinton police station, where she was formally charged with 80 counts of pornography with juveniles, 1 count of indecent behavior with juveniles, and 2 counts of carnal knowledge of juveniles. She was also charged with computer solicitation. After being arrested at the Franklinton police station, she was taken to the Washington Parish Jail, where her bond was set at $100,000. Saturday afternoon (March 22), bond was arranged and she was released from jail.
Ms Smith was formerly a teacher and the girls softball coach at FJHS, but she recently resigned when the police investigation into allegations against her was in progress.
The intensive investigation was conducted by the Franklinton Police Department over a period of four months. The case will now be carried forward into the judicial system by the District Attorney's Office, which reminds everyone that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
