The Franklinton High Lady Demons basketball program will be under new leadership for the upcoming season. Franklinton High has hired JaMya Mingo-Young as their new girls basketball coach.
Coach Mingo-Young has a strong background in the sport as she has spent the past two years as an assistant coach at Loranger High School, where she helped contribute to the program's continued success. As standout student-athlete, she was a key player on two state championship teams during her time at Loranger. Following her high school career, she signed with Mississippi State, where she competed for two years before transferring to the University of Alabama for the next two seasons. She was extended an additional year due to COVID and completed her playing career at Auburn University while earning her master's degree.
Coach Mingo-Young is fired up about getting started at FHS. "I'm excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Franklinton girls' basketball program. It's a great community with a strong tradition, and I'm looking forward to getting started."
She plans to reshape the culture of the girl's program. "My goal is to build a culture of hard work, accountability and pride while helping our student athletes grow on and off the court. We want to compete at a high level and make Franklinton proud."
Franklinton High Principal Shane Smith said about the new coach. "Coach Mingo-Young brings a strong passion for developing and mentoring young women through the game of basketball. Her vision for the Lady Demons program aligns closely with the mission and expectations of Franklinton High School's administration."
