The Franklinton Junior High Falcons football team got off to a fast start and never looked back in a 24-8 road win over the Mt. Hermon Yellow Jackets on Thursday, August 28.
Quarterback Dkari Williams put the Falcons on the board midway through the first quarter with a three yard touchdown run. Jemiah Roberts followed with a successful two-point conversion to give Franklinton an early 8-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Khalifa McClendon broke free for a seventy one yard touchdown run, extending the lead. Williams again converted the two-point attempt, putting the Falcons up 16-0 with just over six minutes to play before halftime.
Following the score, Franklinton's junior varsity unit took the field for the remainder of the first half.
McClendon struck again on the Falcons' first drive of the third quarter, racing seventy five yards to the end zone. The two-point try was once again successful, pushing the lead to 24-0.
The JV squad played the remainder of the game, allowing Mt. Hermon to get on the board late. The Yellow Jackets scored on an eighteen yard touchdown run with 1:15 left in the fourth quarter and added the two-point conversion to cut into the lead. However, the outcome was never in doubt.
"Good team win on the road," said Falcons head coach Andy Creel following the game.
With the victory, Franklinton improves its early season record and will look to build on the momentum heading into next week's matchup against Mt Hermon at Demon Stadium on September 16.
