A Franklinton student is hitting the big time.
Lainey Thomassen of Franklinton will be featured on two giant screens in New York City's Times Square this coming Saturday (September 12) as part of the National Down Syndrome Society's Times Square Video Presentation, which occurs annually.
Young Ms Thomassen’s photo was chosen from the 2,700+ entries that were submitted from around the world. Lainey will represent Louisiana in the presentation, which will feature more than 500 photos of children, teens and adults with Down syndrome from all 50 states in the nation and from 12 other countries.
The presentation will run from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Franklinton time, and it will be livestreamed on the NDSS Facebook page.
The Times Square presentation kicks off the New York City Buddy Walk, which is an annual event that helps promote the acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
The New York City Buddy Walk has been held since 1995 and is part of the NDSS National Buddy Walk Program. Over 150 Buddy Walk events are held each year in communities across the country and even overseas.
