Update: The latest boil water advisory has been cancelled and as of Tuesday a.m. the Franklinton water has been approved for human consumption.

Franklinton town officials were waiting on Monday of this week to find out if a boil water advisory in the town can be cancelled.
Town officials believe that a problem at the Mason Street well had been corrected, but they could not end the boil water advisory until the State Department of Environmental Quality tests and approves the town’s water.
The Mason Street well problem caused two back-to-back boil water advisories. The first lasted two days, from November 27th until November 29th. The second boil water advisory started on Saturday, December 3 and as of Monday evening’s presstime for The Era-Leader, it was still in effect.
The Franklinton Mayor and Board of Aldermen authorized upgrades to the Mason Street well in 2021, to include the purchase of a new generator. However, those upgrades apparently did not prevent the water problem that caused the boil water advisories.
In Franklinton, the boil water advisories caused both concern and inconvenience for residents and businesses alike. One mother reported that her child’s school sent a message to parents requesting that each child bring a bottle of water with them to school during the boil advisory. Several businesses that need to have clean water were in a bind and remained hopeful on Monday that the problem would end soon.
