The LSU Health Ahead/Heart Smart Children's Health Program held its annual Moral and Ethics Essay contest award luncheon on May 1st. Sixth-grade students from public, private and parochial schools in the Bogalusa and Washington Parish school systems were encouraged to write an essay, using prompts suggested by program coordinators. Two winners were chosen from each school, and the top three winners were selected by a group of retired English teachers.
The award luncheon was held at Café Bouchee in Franklinton. Awards were presented by program coordinators. Each winner received a check, a medallion and a certificate.
Winners were:
1st - Luke Wheat - Ben's Ford Christian School
2nd - Jerome Robinson - Northshore Charter School
3rd - Camille Sinanan - Bowling Green School
The Program was founded by the late Dr. Gerald Berenson. The essay contest began as a memorial for two Heart Study workers who exemplified high moral standards.
