SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A suspect is in custody in the death of a 17-year-old high school basketball star in Shreveport, who was shot five times in the back in front of his home.
Shamichael Pearson, 18, was arrested at his home, a block away from the shooting scene. He faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Devin Myers, a student at Huntington High, news outlets reported.
Pearson is being held on a $350,000 bond. It was unknown if he has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
Security video from a camera in the area led police to Pearson, authorities said. The firearm used in the shooting and other evidence were collected from his home, police said.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting.
Thursday’s shooting marks the 13th homicide for the city this year.
