Louisianans can prepare now for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season by taking advantage of updated Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) storm resources, including a redesigned web page and mobile app.
State climatologist Jay Grymes said the 2026 season is expected to produce a slightly below average number of storms due to wind patterns that can disrupt hurricane activity. Researchers at Colorado State University forecast 13 named storms, including six hurricanes and two major hurricanes. Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30.
“Though meteorologists are predicting a below-average hurricane season this year, Louisianans know that it only takes one storm to make a devastating impact,” Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple said. “I urge all policyholders to Be Insurance Ready by reviewing your policies now and discussing potential out-of-pocket costs with your agent. It’s much better to know how to file a claim before your property is damaged than to try to figure out that process after a storm.”
Residents are encouraged to visit the LDI Storm Resource Center, a newly redesigned webpage that streamlines access to critical information ranging from storm preparation and recovery to the post-disaster claims process.
Consumers may also download the LDIConnect app, available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The app provides insurance-specific push alerts related to severe weather and offers direct access to important LDI resources and assistance tools.
