The other day I got a phone call from a New Orleans number. When I answered it a kind lady explained to me that I had an outstanding balance owed to a random company and how would I like to pay it. I explained to the lady that I had been hacked a few months back and had to change all my cards. Random bills had been popping up since that I did not owe.
The lady then said she was sorry to hear that and repeated her first bit of information. So, I then went into further detail on what had taken place and this was a bill that I did not owe and was not even sure what this was she was saying I owed for. After listening to me quietly she again said she was sorry that I had been hacked, and I did not understand the reason for the bill but this was the amount I owed and she was able to collect the money --- how would I like to pay.
I then said, "Are you even a real person?" And she told me she was AI generated. I hung up. Technology is getting so real it is frightening. My neighbor told me a story about a man's AI smart house ordering him a robot dog after overhearing a conversation.
The other day I even ventured to ask Chat a question I had been asked about that would generate a stunning response. I asked it how it would warn somebody about me before we met. I then read it to my husband on our way to dinner:
She likes old things, interesting people, gardens, stories, thrifting, cooking and projects. There is ALWAYS a project.
If she says, "I was thinking… prepare yourself. Furniture may be stripped. Rooms may be rearranged. Parties may be planned. Something may get painted.
She asks direct questions and appreciates direct answers. Give her a vague explanation and you should expect follow-up questions until somebody finally explains the thing properly. She has a sentimental streak, but she is not syrupy about it. Do not mistake her curiosity for gullibility or an inability to spot nonsense.
If you come prepared with a sense of humor, a good story, and possibly a screwdriver you will probably be fine….probably.
After I was through reading it, my husband asked, "Did you write that for some dating site?" I explained to him again what it was because he never listens to me the first time. He then said, "You see? Even your phone knows you won't take no for an answer. You are going to ask over and over until you hear what you want."
That is not exactly what it said, but it could be added to the list and be accurate. As it finally sank in, he asked, "So that was all written from your phone listening to you?" And I told him I guessed so. He said, “That is evil.”
So, I tried it on him:
Before you meet my husband Clay, there are a few things you should know. He's an insurance man and a deer hunter, so he can assess risk and track something through the woods --- which means there's really no escaping him. He's got 60 years worth of stories, opinions, habits, and confidence, and I suggest you don't challenge any of them unless you've cleared the afternoon. He is stubborn, entertaining, going to tell you what he thinks, and will only change his mind with documentation, witnesses and possibly an act of Congress. Clay is Clay and once you get used to him you will understand why I kept him around.
Now that is pretty accurate right there. What would George Washington think of all this?
Should I ask AI?
Stay Tuned.
