A small plane crashed at mid-morning last Thursday near the Bogalusa airport, killing both of the people on board.
Deputies, police officers, and other emergency responders raced to the crash scene at 10:48 a.m., only to find both people on board were dead.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has taken the lead in handling the investigation.
While the NTSB might release as very basic preliminary report within weeks, the actual comprehensive investigative report might take a year, or even longer.
Investigators said a Beech H-35 aircraft took off from the small Bogalusa airport and almost immediately began having problems. Very shortly after takeoff it crashed in a wooded area near the airport.
The deceased occupants of the plane were identified as William "Bill" Day, age 68, and his wife, Tommie Day, age 69. They were from Seguin, Texas.
Apparently the Days were flying from Seguin to Florida, and had stopped at the Bogalusa airport to re-fuel.
