Jo Ann Strickland
March 20, 1937 - June 5, 2026
Jo Ann Strickland, 89, of Bogalusa, La passed away Friday, June 5, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born in Franklinton, La to the late Eptha A and Annette "Nettie" Kennedy Tynes.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Strickland, siblings Eptha Alton Tynes, Jr, Ola Faye Tynes, Joyce McCain, along with a host of several sister-in-laws and brother-n-laws.
She is survived by her son, Randy Strickland (Robyn Robertson) a daughter, Dee Dee Carrier and son-in-law Scott Carrier. Grandchildren Sierra Emmons (Chris), Stuart Slade, Victoria Strickland (Casey Stewart) and Thomas Strickland (Whitney Bond); great grandchildren Lawson Emmons, Annalise Emmons and Landry Strickland due in July; stepsister Betty C Kennedy; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loving family.
Jo Ann graduated from Pine High School and Draughon's Business College. She began working in the insurance business at Bogalusa Indemnity and then worked many years in the insurance business that her and her husband owned, Gilbert Insurance and Associates.
Jo Ann and Frank were married for 61 years. She was a member of the Civic League, a charter member of the Mardi Gras group, GG'S, and a member of First Baptist Church. Jo Ann loved to travel; the beach, mountains and anywhere in between. She also enjoyed music, entertaining, reading and planting flowers and plants. If you were to come to her house, she was going to make sure you had something to eat or least take food home with you. Even animals knew where to go to be fed. She was a selfless, gracious, southern lady who always wanted to help others. Jo Ann loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home in Bogalusa, LA on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. Interment to follow up in the Garden of Peace Cemetery in Ponemah Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:30 A.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
