Josie Fendlason Waskom, age 94, passed peacefully from her earthly home on Monday evening, February 2, 2026. Born during the Great Depression on November 6, 1931, Josie lived a long, faithful, and fruitful life centered around family, service, and community.
Josie was a devoted mother who lovingly raised seven children. She dedicated over 25 years of service to the State of Louisiana, retiring from the Office of Child Services. Outside of her work, Josie found great joy in caring for others in countless ways. She loved sewing, quilting, baking, and trying new recipes, often sharing her creations with those she loved. She was also a loyal supporter of LSU Tiger sports and rarely missed cheering on her team.
Her faith and community were at the heart of her life. Josie cherished her many friendships and her church family at First Baptist Church of Franklinton, where she was a lifelong attendee. She also generously gave her time volunteering at the Washington Parish Fair, leaving a lasting impact on her community.
She is survived by her children, Kay (Jim) Grantham, Beth (John) Langley, Denise Christian, Lynn (Davis) Gardner, Poppi Crain, James (Melanie) Waskom, and Calvin (Shannon) Waskom.
Grandchildren Bret Grantham, Clay Grantham, Jacob Roy, Jesse Christian, Lindsay Gardner, Christopher Gardner, Christiana Waskom, Ian Waskom, Colton Waskom, and Callie Waskom Amedee, along with numerous great-grandchildren who brought her immense pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ansel F. Waskom Jr.; her daughter, Patti Ann Waskom; her parents, John Esco Fendlason and Eunice Bankston Fendlason; and her brother, Bruce Fendlason.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Franklinton, Louisiana, on February 28, 2026. Visitation from 10am until 12 with the service to follow.
