The Bowling Green School Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Mrs. Kim Burris as the new Head of School. She succeeds Phill Junkins, who is leaving at the end of the current school year.
A 1997 graduate of Bowling Green School, Mrs. Burris brings over 15 years of experience in education and leadership to her new role. She has served as Associate Head of School and High School Principal for the past four years, demonstrating exceptional vision, professionalism, and a deep commitment to student success. Her years of leadership at BGS were a significant factor in the Board’s unanimous decision.
Mrs. Burris began her teaching career at Oak Forest Academy, where she taught 11th and 12th grade English Language Arts for two years. She then returned home to BGS, where she spent the next 10 years teaching 7th and 8th grade ELA, building lasting relationships with students and families while fostering a love for learning.
Mrs. Burris’s ties to Bowling Green School run deep within her family. Her husband is a fellow BGS alumnus, and together they have remained closely connected to the school community. Their daughter graduated from Bowling Green just last year, and their son is currently an 8th grade student.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech University and completed her Master's Certification in Administration from Mississippi College. She is also proud to have been accepted to Tulane University’s graduate program in Interdisciplinary Educational Design and Leadership, a testament to her continued commitment to growth and excellence in education.
Mrs. Burris is believed to be the youngest individual to be appointed as Head of School in Bowling Green’s history and only the second woman to hold the position.
Her impact reaches beyond the classroom. For nine years, she served as the Buccanette Director and Sponsor, mentoring and empowering young women—many of whom advanced to perform with collegiate teams such as the LSU Golden Girls, SLU Lionettes, ULM Hawkline, and PRCC String of Pearls.
In addition, Mrs. Burris is a 12-year member of the Waverley Club and a 7-year member of the Franklinton Woman’s Club, reflecting her active involvement and leadership in the broader community. She is also a member of Stoney Point Baptist Church.
