The Pine Lady Raiders and the Franklinton Demons got big wins last week in a pair of games played at Pine High. The Lady Raiders defeated the Fontainebleau Lady Bulldogs soundly 64-26 and the Demons defeated the home standing Raiders 65-57.
The Lady Raiders jumped out to a solid 13-4 lead after one period. In the second period the teams each scored twelve points for a 25-16 lead at the halftime intermission.
The Lady Raiders took control of the game in the third period as they scored twenty-nine points and held the Lady Bulldogs to a mere four points for a 54-20 lead after three. Numerous substitutes played in the final period and the Lady Raiders won handily 64-26.
A. Kate Thomas had 22 points to lead the game, A. Phelps had 16, K. Sumrall had 9, K. Magee J. Lee and S. Thomas had four each, S. Boughman and D. Sumrall had two each and M. Lyon had 1 point.
The Demons raced out to a fine 20-9 lead in the first period before the Raiders tightened up and held them to just thirteen in the second but could only manage twelve points for a 33-21 halftime score in favor of Franklinton.
The Raiders came out of halftime with a nice third period as they scored sixteen points and held the Demons to just eight cutting into the lead but still trailed 41-37 after three periods of play. In the final high tempo quarter, the Demons offense came back to life as they amassed twenty-four points while the Raiders scored twenty for a final of 65-57.
RJ Hart led the Demons with twenty points while Jaiden Garrett and Omira Williams each had fourteen points. Sy Austin had eight points, Avery Brumfield had five points and J. Burkhalter had two. The Demons hit on fourteen of their twenty free throws while the Raiders hit on eighteen of their thirty-four attempts.
For the Raiders, DJ Garrett was the high scorer for the game with thirty-one points, Nathan Martin and Zach Thomas each had nine points, Braylon Lott had seven and Cooper Thomas had one.
The Demons will host Fontainebleau Friday in non-district action.
