Larkin Woodrow Smitherman, Jr., age 76, of Mount Hermon went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday June 20, 2025.
Woody, as he was known to his family and friends, grew up in Bessemer, Alabama and was drafted into the United States Army to serve in the Vietnam War. He served our country bravely and proudly. He retired from the Alabama Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in the outdoors.
Woody was the most selfless, kind and loving person you could have the honor of knowing. He was loved so much and will be missed terribly.
He is survived by his son and daughter in law Michael Patrick Smitherman and Lynne Smitherman, grandchildren Brittany Peck, Tyler Smitherman and Dustin Smitherman, his sisters Cynthia Cofer and Mary Cofer, also many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife and best friend, Mary Butler Smitherman, sisters Betty Martin, Sarah Franklin and other family members.
Woody will be laid to rest in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, Louisiana following a private ceremony for his family.
The family was served by Crain Funeral Home of Franklinton.
