Julia Letlow, who has represented Washington Parish in Congress since 2021, won in both the parish and statewide Saturday to claim the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.
She defeated StateTreasurer John Fleming in Saturday’s run-off.
In November, Letlow will face Democrat Jamie Davis, who easily won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate, defeating Gary Crockett in both the parish and statewide.
In another run-off, Stephanie Hilferty defeated John Young to win the Republican nomination for the District 1 seat on the Louisiana Public Service Commission. She won both in the parish and district-wide. In November, Hilferty will face Democrat Connie Norris and No Party candidate Chris Justin.
Voters in Washington Parish Fire District #1 defeated a proposed15 mil tax issue. In a low turnout election, with only 24.4% of voters participating, the proposal fell 188 No to 119 Yes, or 61% to 39%.
