Parish Playoff Picture - The parish playoff picture was made a little clearer after last week's games. Still a lot of football to be played and everyone has a chance.
Remember that the top 28 teams qualify for the playoffs and the top 16 teams host in the first round. All home playoff games are determined by the highest seed.
Franklinton hurt themselves with a loss and fell to 25. They really need to win both remaining games to insure a playoff spot. One win could get them in but two losses would see them not qualify.
Pine, with a 6-2 record, is in solid shape at 13. Now they are playing for a home first round game and have two winnable games remaining.
Bogalusa is not in good shape at 38 despite their win last week. The Jacks will probably need to win their remaining two games to qualify.
Varnado is at 34 and also not in good shape and, like Bogalusa, will need to win their remaining games to qualify.
Game of the Week - Mandeville (8-0)) at Northshore (8-0) I don't know a lot about these two teams, although I have seen them both play this year. They are both solid, well coached and talented teams. Besides all of that, anytime two undefeated teams meet this late in the season it is worth mentioning.
Should be a good one!
Notes and Quotes
"Not much to say. We still have things to play for and we have to keep working. I am hopeful that we can find a way these last couple of weeks." ---Franklinton coach Nick Saltaformaggio
"That was a great win for our football program. I'm very proud of how our team has grown up over the last month. This was a total team win and I'm very happy for our players and coaches." ---Pine coach Bradley Seal
"The Lumberjacks truly showed heart, grit and determination to pull out a victory at Loranger. The Jacks have now won three games which is tied for the number of wins they've had in the past two seasons! The Jacks are growing and the battle for district 8-3A is heating up!"
---Bogalusa coach Larry Harold
"Proud of our guys and coaches. We faced a lot of adversity., including losing our starting quarterback Jay Dupuy to a shoulder injury on the first drive. Acadiana came out and played very hard and physical. Our guys responded well. We had guys step up and make big plays on both sides. Nathon Pylant played a big role in quarterback. Harper Pittman at corner with two interceptions for touchdowns big night for him. Proud of the whole team and the effort they gave." ---Bowling Green coach Dean King
"We won the turnover battle and played real clean, we just couldn't finish drives on offense." ---Bens Ford coach Destin Pittman
“I thought our offense did a good job of spreading the ball around and moving the ball effectively. We were able to make plays and put ourselves in position to be successful, but some early mistakes put us behind, and we spent most of the game trying to play catch-up. Against a good football team, you can’t afford to put yourself in that position. We have to do a better job of taking care of the football, limiting mistakes, and putting together four quarters of football.”
---Varnado coach Vonta Owens
