The Pine Raiders football team got a solid win to cap off their regular season as they defeated Springfield 50-0. The Raiders end their regular season with a nice 7-3 overall record and a 3-2 district record. The Raiders will enter the playoffs as the 9 seed and will host the 24 seed St Helena, which sports a 3-6 record.
The Raiders scored first when Zach Thomas scooped up a loose ball and returned it for a touchdown and a 7-0 Raiders lead. Thomas Benard scored on the Raiders first offensive series with a 53 yard run to put them up 14-0. Braxton Newman scored from 13 yards out on their next drive for a 21-0 lead.
After a Bulldog punt the Raiders scored again when Christian Williams scored on a 21 yard run with 3:28 left in the first half, putting the Raiders up 28-0.
The Raiders continued to pour it on the Bulldogs in the second half as Zach Thomas caught a 32 yard touchdown. The two point conversion was good and the Raiders were up 36-0.
After an interception by Kayden Stogner the Raiders were set up at the Bulldog 24 and eventually scored on Williams four yard run to increase their lead to 43-0. This forced a running clock for the remainder of the game and the Raiders scored once more when quarterback Trey Knight went in from 17 yards out.
The Bulldogs then ate up a lot of clock moving the ball to the Raiders 45 and the JV Raiders finished out the game as the Raiders won 50-0.
Coach Bradley Seal likes where his team is going into the playoffs. "We played well in all three phases. It was nice to end the regular season with a win. I feel like we were playing well going into the playoffs."
Raiders quarterback Trey Knight was 6 of 7 passing for 137 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 24 yards and a touchdown. DJ Garrett caught five passes for 105 yards. Zach Thomas caught one for 32 yards and a touchdown. Thomas Benard was the leading rusher with 56 yards and a touchdown on three carries.
