When the Franklinton Demons take on Iowa this Friday in the semifinals of the 2024 LHSAA Division II football playoffs, plenty of fans will be reminded of another semifinal game 14 years earlier.
In December of 2010, the O.P. Walker football team came to Franklinton to face the Demons, with the winner moving on to the Class 4A state championship game in the Superdome.
The atmosphere in Demon Stadium for that game 14 years ago was electric. The FHS fans rocked the stadium, with their powerful energy and enthusiasm infusing the team. But not just for the O.P. Walker game ---- the Demon fans had been there for the 2010 team for that entire season.
And now, throughout this amazing 2024 Demon season, FHS fans have been there as yet another talented team of Demon football players aim for a state championship. The strong support of the local community has helped to motivate and drive this outstanding team of young men.
The victory over O.P Walker sent the 2010 Demons on to the Superdome, and a victory against Iowa this Friday night will send the 2024 Demons to the Superdome for the state championship game.
The 2010 FHS team won the school’s first state football championship. With the loyal support of their fans, yes indeed, the 2024 team can make it happen again!
Fans not just of FHS, but also fans of both Bowling Green and Pine have been a big part of the parish’s highly successful 2024 football season. Bowling Green recently finished its 2024 season playing in the MAIS state championship game in Jackson, Mississippi; and Pine made it all the way to the LHSAA quarterfinals for the second consecutive year.
Congratulations are certainly in order not just to the talented high school football teams of Washington Parish, but also to the many spirited fans who support those teams!
