The Franklinton Demons football team manhandled the Fontainebleau Bulldogs last Friday night after homecoming festivities were over. The Demons jumped out to a huge lead and coasted the rest of the way for a nice 61-13 win. The win moves their record to 3-1 as they will travel to the 4-0 Sumner Cowboys this week.
The Demons got on the board first as they scored on their opening drive when DaMikies McClain caught a 13 yard pass from Jacob Crain with 8:36 left in the first. After a Bulldog punt the Demons scored again when McClain caught another one, this one for 49 yards and a touchdown for a 14-0 score. The Bulldogs fumbled on their next play and the Demons recovered and took advantage with a 15 yard run by Conner Magee to go up 20-0.
Sy Austin scored on long runs on each of the Demons next three possessions. Touchdown runs of 43, 47 and 33 yards put the Demons up 40-0. The Bulldogs managed a score before halftime to cut the lead to 40-6.
In the third quarter the Demons scored on their first possession as Austin scored again, this time from 51 yards out to put the Demons up 47-6. Magee scored on a 29 yard reception from Jacob Crain on their next drive to go up 54-6 and engage the mercy rule of running the clock.
The Bulldogs scored against the Demons reserves and cut the lead to 54-13 but Magee returned the kickoff for a 91 yard touchdown to go up 61-13. The Bulldogs were unable to score on their final drive and the Demons won handily 61-13.
Coach Nick Saltaformaggio said his team did well but it is a long season. “Any time you can come out and score 61 points you’re going to have a happy night and on homecoming makes it even more enjoyable. But, I think our kids are starting to listen to the message that they’re good. We’re telling them they’re good, we challenged them inside tonight and told them if you’re good you go out and you get rid of people like this. We’ve got to keep having the mental mistakes, the breakdowns. Even last week, we had to win a game in overtime that should have never gotten there. We cleaned up a little bit of that tonight. It’s still a long journey, next week is the halfway point and we’re going to go play a good Sumner team. We’ll see where we are. We’re not too banged up; we got out of this unscathed. I though overall our performance was 61-13.”
Sy Austin was the Demons leading rusher with 202 yards and four touchdowns on 10 carries. Quarterback Jacob Crain had 53 yards on 6 carries and passed for 129 yards and three touchdowns on 6 completions of 11 attempts. DaMikies McClain caught two passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns while Conner Magee caught two for 35 yards and a touchdown, Jaiden Garrett caught one for 20 yards and Dalton Freeman caught one for 12 yards. Magee also rushed for 38 yards and a touchdown.
