The Franklinton Demons football team dropped a hard fought, wet game to the Covington Lions last Friday night in Demon Stadium 22-7.
The Demons mishandled the punt snap on their initial drive and gave the Lions the ball at the Demons 35. The Demons defense held and forced a punt but started at their own four yard line. After not being able to move from there the Lions had the ball at the Demons 37 after another punt. From there the Lions managed a score on a 14 yard run with 4:07 left in the first. The Lions' two point conversion was good and Covington went up 8-0.
The teams traded punts before the Demons had the ball at the Lions 40 after a poor Lions punt. A bad snap and a sack pushed them back and did not allow them to take advantage of the good field position.
The Lions threatened just before halftime as they passed the ball to the one yard line but could not get off another play before time ran out in the first half.
After recovering a fumble at midfield the Demons punted pinning the Lions to their three. After holding the Lions and forcing a punt the Demons had the ball at the Lions 35. The Demons failed to move the ball and turned the ball over on downs there. After trading punts the Lions scored after a short drive on a 14 yard pass with 7:32 left in the fourth to go up 15-0.
The Demons were intercepted on their next possession and the Lions scored on that drive as they went up 22-0 with 3:47 left in the game.
The Demons then put together a 70 yard drive to score with 1:33 left in the game as Zion Anders ran it in from nine yards out. Kade Lavigne hit the extra point and the score stood at 22-7 which would be the final as the Lions ran out the clock.
