The Franklinton Demons football team faced off with their ancient rival, the Bogalusa Lumberjacks and fell to them 44-21 last Friday in Lewis Murray Stadium.
The Lumberjacks got off to a fast start as they scored on their opening drive with a 49 yard touchdown pass to go up 8-0 with 9:46 left in the first. They added to that after the Demons punted with a 21 yard touchdown pass for a 14-0 lead.
The Demons then got on the scoreboard in the second period as they drove from their own 36. Quarterback Zion Anders hit Daniel Bryant in the end zone for a 17 yard touchdown. The extra point was ruled no good and the score stood at 14-6.
The Lumberjacks answered with a 31 yard touchdown run by their quarterback to go up 20-6, then intercepted a pass moments later to go up 26-6.
The Demons put together a decent drive that moved from their own 28 to the Lumberjacks’ 35 but turned the ball over on downs there.
Bogalusa scored on their next two possessions before the half to hold a 38-6 lead at halftime.
The Lumberjacks scored on their initial drive of the second half on an 18 yard pass to go up 44-6.
The Demons offense scored twice in the fourth quarter as Zion Anders scored from three yards out and then passed to Bryant for the two point conversion to make the score 44-14, then Rayshone Manuel score on an 11 yard run with 2:33 left in the game for a 44-21 score after Kade Lavigne added the extra point.
After the game FHS Coach Guy Lecompte, coaching his initial regular season game as head coach of the Demons, stated simply. "We have to execute better and avoid mental mistakes."
Zion Anders was 8 of 22 passing for 87 yards with one touchdown and one interception and added 31 yards and a touchdown rushing on 7 carries. Daniel Bryant had two receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown, Kelly Daniels had two receptions for 14 yards, Colin Stewart had two for 20 yards, Micah Hart had one for 5 yards and Amias Tate had one reception.
Rayshone Manuel had 75 yards and a touchdown rushing on six attempts, Senqualon Conerly had 34 on 11 carries, Kelly Daniels had 3 yards on one carry and Micah Hart had 37 on five carries.
The Demons will host the Covington Lions in Demon Stadium this Friday in their home opener. The Lions defeated John Ehret 50-28 last week and got by the Demons 34-21 last season. Covington has won the last six games in this series and nine of the last ten.
