The Franklinton Demons powerlifting team participated in the State Championship in powerlifting last weekend in Monroe. FHS participates in the Division II in this particular sport. On the girl's side of things, the Demons had five lifters make it to the podium.
Marleigh Schilling, a junior, took home the silver in the 132lb weight class with a total of 705 pounds lifted.
Jennifer Dong, a sophomore, placed third in her 132lb class with a total of 700 pounds lifted.
Arielle Magee, a junior, placed third in the 220lb class with a total of 735 pounds lifted.
Ava Roshto, a senior, placed third in the 123lb weight class with a total of 570 pounds lifted. Also, Ava Roshto was selected to the Academic All State with a 4.0 GPA.
Angel Dufrene, a junior, placed third in the 97lb class with a total of 440 pounds lifted.
On the boys side one lifter made it to the podium and that was senior Shelton Jenkins, who won a state championship in the 198lb class. This is his third powerlifting state championship. Jenkins tied his own divisional record of 410 pounds and then broke it with a successful attempt at 425 pounds on his second bench lift. He is also the defending national champion.
Adam Galloway, a senior, closed with a strong 7th place finish with a total of 1350 pounds lifted.
Powerlifting coach John Lambert was proud of his group of lifters. "I am incredibly proud of our kids. Despite a tough start, disappointments and a few heartbreaks, they showed what they're made of, pushed thorugh snd finished strong - bringing home a record six medals and an Outstanding Lifter Award. We Believe."
The Franklinton Demons baseball team is entering their district portion of their schedule. Currently the Demons have a nice 12-5 record as they enter district. They will play Lakeshore, Pearl River and Salmen three times each to determine a district champion. The Demons also have a non district game remaining with the Sumner Cowboys on April 22 on the road.
The Demons will travel to Pearl River on March 31, will host Salmen on Saturday April 2 then go to Lakeshore on April 5.
Coach Jeff Tageant, coaching in his 34th season as head coach of the Demons with a record of over 550 wins, says his team is ready to compete for the district title again. "We are looking forward to the start of district and defending the championship from last year. Our pitching has been our strong point and we feel our hitting is getting better every game."
