Game of the Week - Bens Ford (0-0) at Park Place (0-0) Bens Ford soundly defeated Park Place last season enroute a playoff appearance and getting a playoff win. The Eagles have been working hard to improve and build on last season's success. A victory in game one of the season would go a long way towards that goal.
Should be a good one.
Notes and Quotes
Most everyone who follows high school football is, by now, aware of the passing of Ed Daniels, the sports director for ABC26 and the host of Friday Night Football. I personally only met him a couple of times but there is no denying the impact that he had on high school sports in Louisiana in general and high school football in particular.
Shane Smith, principal and former head football coach at FHS, knew him much better and felt that he did what almost no one else could or would do.
Shane Smith said, "The coverage for high school football on networks are not lucrative, thus the owners of the networks are more focused on the lucrative side of sports like advertising money which come with college and NFL games. So, for Ed to invest his time with interns traveling around southeast Louisiana shooting footage of multiple high school games took work. He personally had to secure the sponsorships, coercing businesses to support local high school athletics and he created the best high school sports show in this region of the country, Friday Night Football.”
"He just enjoyed people and had a passion for giving high school athletes exposure on Friday nights. I'm not sure where FNF will go from here but I know for sure ED Daniels will be missed. He made an impact on HS football in the southeast region of Louisiana. He made an impact on student athletes and he left a legacy."
"After we fought through the early game jitters, we settled in and played hard. We turned the ball over too many times to beat a team the caliber of Adams. They are the defending 5A state champ and a favorite to win it again. You have to play flawless to beat a team like that and hope you get some turnovers from them. From a positive standpoint we fought hard for 4 full quarters and moved the ball on them. We matched their physicality and never stopped fighting. After spotting them two early touchdowns, we were able on two occasions to get the game back to a two score game. I'm proud of the fight that we showed. We will get the turnovers cleaned up and continue to improve as we head toward district play that will begin week 6. The front end of our schedule is loaded with 5A schools, we do that to get better by playing good competition. Good competition exposes your flaws and that's what we need to know as a staff so that we can address those issues before district play." --- Jason Johnson, Bowling Green coach
"We are excited to finally get to play somebody. I think we will match up well with Park Place. We have some experience coming back but we also have several new faces in starting roles so, I am just ready for a little competition and adversity to see how we respond as a team."
--- Destin Pittman, Bens Ford coach
