Game of the Week - Silliman (1-0) at Bowling Green (0-2) The Buccaneers have gotten off to a slow start mostly due to their tough schedule. Silliman is 1-0 and seems to be a ripe fruit for the Bucs to pick. Homefield advantage for the Bucs could be the difference. Should be a good one.
Notes and Quotes
"I thought our physicality was excellent. As with most early season scrimmages, we had assignment breakdowns, but we performed well. I thought that we showed major improvements from last season. Our best players performed well and some of our new players did things that make us a better football team. I'm excited about where this team can go. We have a big test again next week at Mandeville. Kentwood is an excellent football team, so going back to back against teams with that type of talent only gets you better." -- Nick Saltaformaggio, Franklinton coach
"These larger class opponents have been a challenge and we have another this week coming up with Silliman. These teams have pushed our guys to compete at a high level of play early in our season. We are a little banged up right now but we know playing these good folks is going to pay off as we enter our district play. Our depth has been an issue early on. We have a lot of kids going both ways and these larger schools have very few doing the same. I'm proud of the fight in our kids again this week! We played hard the entire game."--Jason Johnson, Bowling Green coach
"Offensively our first drive we looked a little sloppy with penalties and a bad snap. After that I was pleased with our offense. We scored on all three of our drives and had another long touchdown called back. Defensively against the run I thought we played ok besides one missed tackle. We had a couple young defensive backs that got lost in coverage and we have to clean that up. Next week we need to clean up the penalties on offense and play with more consistency on defense." -- Bradley Seal, Pine coach.
"I was impressed with our team last night. I thought we played well on both sides of the ball. We are running a new offense with a new quarterback so you know there is a learning curve but senior Will Hardge has won the job and it wasn't given to him -- he definitely earned it. He ran the offense efficiently and completed some nice throws including a touchdown to Tillas Hall in the scripted part of the scrimmage.
Defensively we played well with the exception of one big play but that happens sometimes. I think the running quarter at the end final score was 6-0 us and they only gave up one first down on a screen play. They had the ball first in the live quarter and we stopped them. Once we got the ball back, Will connected on a pass to Travion Benne for a touchdown.
We play a really tough schedule but have an opportunity to have a really good football team if we can stay healthy and get better each week. How we deal with adversity and how mentally tough we are will be the tell of the tape."
--Adam Brumfield, Varnado coach
"I am proud of our guys for battling all night, but offensively we have to clean up a lot on the interior of the offensive line. We also have to clean up a few things defensively up front on the defensive line but all in all it is a win. We just have to get back to work and try to get better week by week." --Destin Pittman, Bens Ford coach
