It was a case of “above and beyond the call of duty” for Franklinton Public Works employees last week when a fire hydrant broke and flooded an area to the rear of Ace Hardware/Murphy-Bateman Building Supplies on the edge of downtown Franklinton. Public Works employees Dave Pigott and Clinton Rochester can be seen in the photo above almost completely submerged as they attempted to cut off the water flow caused by the broken hydrant, shown at right side of photo. In the photo at right, heavy equipment was used to help with the submerged broken hydrant connection. Once the water flow was cut off, the water gradually drained.
