Bowling Green hosted Parklane Academy last Friday in a non-district matchup. The Class 4A Buccaneers were looking to pick up a win against the Class 6A Pioneers from McComb, Mississippi.
After each team’s offense stalled on their first possession of the game, Parklane took over at their own 44 yard line. The Pioneers got on the scoreboard with a 15 yard run to cap a six play, 54 yard drive. The extra point made it 7-0 with 5:37 remaining in the opening quarter.
The Parklane defense forced a punt and took over on the BGS 45 yard line. The Pioneers quarterback tossed a touchdown on the first play of the drive to increase the PA lead. A successful extra point put Parklane ahead 14-0 with 3:00 minutes left in the first quarter.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard again with a 24 yard touchdown pass. The extra point increased the Parklane lead to 21-0 with 10:20 left in the second quarter.
Bowling Green’s Josiah Miller returned the ensuing kickoff to the Pioneers 45 yard line. Three plays later, Miller took a toss around right end and raced 30 yards for a Buccaneers touchdown. The extra point was blocked and Parklane held a 21-6 lead with 9:37 left in the second.
The Pioneers put up 21 points with just over seven minutes remaining in the half. A 10 yard touchdown run was followed by a 41 yard touchdown run. Parklane then intercepted a Buccaneers pass at the 5 yard line and returned it to midfield. A 20 yard touchdown run with 8 seconds in the half gave Parklane a 42-6 halftime lead.
Bowling Green received the second half kickoff and returned it to the 37 yard line. After picking up one first down, Kyron Cowart ran around the right side for a 37 yard gain. On the next play, Miller bulled his way into the end zone from 3 yards out. Alex Brock’s extra point made the score 42-13 with 7 minutes left in the third quarter.
Parklane answered with a 41 yard touchdown run. The extra point was blocked and the Pioneers led 48-13 with 4:15 remaining in the third quarter.
The Bucs returned the ensuing kickoff to the 33 yard line. Christian Williams ran 12 yards on first down. Miller followed with a 55 yard run down the right sideline for a Buccaneers touchdown with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter. Another Alex Brock extra point made the score 48-20.
Parklane kicked a 28 yard field goal to finish the scoring for the evening.
Josiah Miller rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries, Kyron Cowart had 90 yards on 9 carries and Christian Williams carried 3 times for 20 yards.
Bowling Green travels to Amite, LA this Friday to face Class 5A Oak Forest Academy in another non-district contest.
