After the customary prayer and pledge of allegiance, Monday, June 27th's Washington Parish Council meeting began with the introduction of ordinance 22-713, which creates Sales Tax District Number Three in the parish. Regarding the introduction to the new ordinance, there will be a public hearing on July 11th at 5:45pm.
Next on the council's agenda was the adoption of resolution 22-1164. This resolution was made in cooperation with Louisiana law, which required the Washington Parish Government to revise their election district boundaries based on the 2022 census. Overseeing this project was Marshal "Buddy" Jenkins who, along with his seven member advisory committee, constructed and submitted a new plan for the Louisiana Secretary of State. The committee, as well as Mr. Jenkins were commended for their excellent performance.
Also applauding Mr. Jenkins at Monday's meeting was Parish public works director Ken Wheat, who explained that, "This is not the first time he's made history for the parish… the man doesn't give up with all the challenges that come with this… That says a lot about this man and his dedication to our parish."
After the adoption of the new resolution, the council moved onto the president's report.
Following the president's report and the departmental reports the meeting was closed with comments from council members who wished the citizens a happy Fourth of July.
