The long 2024 election campaign is drawing to a close. This coming Tuesday, November 5, is election day in Washington Parish and across the nation.
In addition to a president and vice-president, many parish voters will also be electing municipal officers.
In the Town of Franklinton, a mayor will be elected, but the election for Franklinton aldermen has been delayed until December 7 as a result of the recent death of candidate Frankie Crosby..
The Franklinton alderman election is the only ballot item that has been moved to December 7 --- all other November 5 ballot items remain unchanged.
Candidates seeking the Mayor’s office in Franklinton are the incumbent, Greg Route, a Democrat, and Alderman Darwin Sharp, a Republican.
Seeking re-election as U.S. Congressman is Julia Letlow, a Republican, who is opposed by M.V. “Vinny” Mendoza, Republican, and Michael Vallient Jr., a Democrat.
Of course, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris are running for President, along with nine minor candidates.
Those voters who live within Washington Parish Fire Protection District 7 will see a millage renewal issue on their November 5 ballot.
In Angie, there will be an election for Mayor, with Denise Robinson and Darryl Knight seeking the office. In Varnado, 5 candidates will be on the ballot for 3 Alderman positions.
In Bogalusa, the District B seat on the Bogalusa City Council will be on the Nov. 5 ballot.
Polling places will be open on November 5 from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Anyone in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
