Each year the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals sponsors a poster contest for any public, private or parochial school student held in conjunction with area fairs and festivals. The subject of the poster is "My Fair/Festival."
Posters are judged in four categories: (A) Grades 1-3 (B) Grades 4-6 (C) Grades 7-9 (D) Grades 10-12 4. All lettering must be free hand and mediums used can be: crayon, water color, acrylics, felt-tip pen or oil. First, Second and Third place winners at local levels in each category are eligible for state competition.
Posters are judged and points awarded on Originality, Theme, Neatness, and Spelling. Third place receives $ 25.00; Second place $ 50.00 and First place $ 75.00 with a an overall winner receiving $100.
At the March meeting of the Washington Parish Fair Committee Chairmen and Executive Board, President James Magruder presented the three winners from Washington Parish their state prizes. The local winners were from Bowling Green School, Pine High School, and one is home-schooled.
