Early voting is now underway for the November 5 presidential election, which also includes a race for Mayor of Franklinton and other local offices in Washington Parish.
Based on early voting so far, Washington Parish Registrar of Voters Randy Strickland is predicting approximately 64% voter turnout for the Nov. 5 election.
Early voting will continue until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29.
Early voting takes place from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the Registrar of Voters office at the Courthouse in Franklinton and at Northshore Technical College at 1710 Sullivan Drive in Bogalusa. (Voters need to bring their Louisiana drivers license or a State of Louisiana ID card.)
The November 5 election is for president and vice-president and U.S. Congress, as well as for municipal officers in Washington Parish towns.
Former President Donald Trump, a Republican, and Vice-President Kamala Harris, a Democrat. are running for President, along with nine other candidates from minor parties.
In Franklinton, the only town officer to be voted on in the November 5 election will be Mayor. The election for Franklinton aldermen has been pushed back until December 7 due to the recent death of Frankie Crosby, a parish school board member who was also one of the aldermen candidates.
The Franklinton alderman election is the only ballot item that has been moved to December 7 --- all other November 5 ballot items remain unchanged.
(At some point a special election will be held to fill Crosby’s vacant seat on the parish school board, but this could occur sometime early next year.)
Candidates seeking the Mayor’s office in Franklinton are the incumbent, Greg Route, a Democrat, and Alderman Darwin Sharp, a Republican.
Seeking re-election as U.S. Congressman is Julia Letlow, a Republican, who is opposed by M.V. “Vinny” Mendoza, Republican, and Michael Vallient Jr., a Democrat.
And of course, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris are running for President, along nine other candidates from minor parties.
Those voters who live within Washington Parish Fire Protection District 7 will see a millage renewal issue on their November 5 ballot.
In Angie, there will be an election for Mayor, with Denise Robinson and Darryl Knight seeking the office.
In Varnado, 5 candidates will be on the ballot for 3 Alderman positions.
In Bogalusa, the District B seat on the Bogalusa City Council will be on the Nov. 5 ballot.
