Our community has been raising funds to build "Our Veterans Memorial Park" (OVMP) in Washington Parish to pay tribute to veterans. On Memorial Day, progress was realized when we raised the first three flags in the center of the lighted plaza - the majestic USA flag, the Louisiana State flag, and the POW flag. A soft raising was held with committee members as the site was still under construction.
Much progress has been made in the recent months. Engraved bricks have been laid in the plaza and walkway, gravel parking and paved handicap parking is available, and trees have been cut and trimmed to shape the safety and beauty of this lovely park.
Our fundraising campaign is continuing to raise money through community donations, NGO Funding, memorial bricks, tee shirt and cap sales, along with planned fundraiser events in the future.
Upcoming plans include beautiful monuments for each of the six branches of the military, a large brick sign stating "Our Veterans Memorial Park," memorial benches, brick sales, landscaping, and a Veteran's Day Program on Saturday, November 9th.
You can order personalized engraved bricks or a memorial bench to pay tribute or honor a Veteran, loved one, organization, etc. We offer different colors of T-shirts and caps for sale. Our Veterans Memorial Park celebrates the American spirit as well as providing a space for visitors with an atmosphere of natural beauty, peace for quiet meditation, and a sense of dignity and honor to the memory of veterans. You can be a part of this endeavor with your generous donations.
The park is located at the corner of Highway 10 and Dollar Road in the center of Washington Parish.
Upon completion, this will become a beautiful memorial that Washington Parish will truly be proud of and cherished by all who visit.
