Voters in the town of Franklinton will decide on Saturday whether Alderman Heath Spears will be recalled.
Only registered voters living within the city limits of Franklinton are eligible to vote.
Voters on Saturday will be able to cast a ballot that is either for or against the recall of Spears.
The recall was launched by a group that said Spears is living outside the Franklinton city limits and thus is nnot eligible to serve as a town alderman. However, Spears has said his home burned, forcing him to temporarily reside outside the city limits. Spears said he now lives within the city limits.
All three regular Franklinton precincts will be open for Saturday’s election: The School Board Office at 800 Main Street, (Precinct 3-01); Franklinton Junior High School, (Precinct 3-02); and Franklinton High School, (Precinct 3-03).
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
If Spears is recalled, he will be removed from his post as alderman immediately. The Board of Aldermen can then appoint a temporary replacement until this fall’s election. Or the Board can leave the seat vacant until this fall’s election.
If Spears is not recalled in the election then he will continue as an alderman.
