With Christmas and New Year’s behind us, it’s time to start thinking about Mardi Gras.
The local parades in Washington Parish are eagerly awaited and well attended.
The MCCA parade in Bogalusa will roll on Saturday, February 18, and the Krewe of Pepe parade in Franklinton will roll on Sunday, Febuary 19, with Mardi Gras day (Fat Tuesday) falling on February 21.
Here is information about the King and Queen of MCCA XLIII. Information about royalty for the Krewe of Pepe will be published as it becomes available.
King MCCA XLIII, Leo Mickenheim, Jr., is the President/CEO and Member of the Board of Directors of Citizens Savings Band and has been an active member of the MCCA organization since the first parade in 1987.
Currently, King Leo is in Dionysus. He also currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Our Lady of the Angels Hospital, Bogue Lusa Water Works and the Bogalusa Country Club. He is an active member of Annunciation Catholic Church where he serves as a member of the Finance Committee and is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is the son of the late Leo Mickenheim, Sr. and Esther Josephine Wells Mickenheim. He is married to Judi McKenzie Mickenheim and together they are the proud parents of three children --- Kelli Mickenheim Woods, Jason Mickenheim, and Jennifer Mickenheim Blom. They are also the proud grandparents of eight.
Queen MCCA XLIII, Julie Hayden, is married to Hap Hayden, owner of Delta Printing Co. and member of the MCCA Board of Directors. Julie and Hap are the proud parents of three children, Hayes (who resides and works in the Florida panhandle), Mary Margaret (resides in Dallas, TX and working on post-graduate studies) and Owen (a sophomore at the University of Alabama). She is the daughter of Ronnie Johnson and the late Mary Wilkes Johnson and the daughter-in-law of the late Horace Hayden Jr., prior MCCA Board member, and Barbara Hayden, Queen MCCA IV.
Julie is employed by Alfasigma USA Inc. as Chief Financial Officer in the Covington, LA office. She has been a member of the MASH Mardi Gras ladies' group for 28 years.
This year's Coronation Ball will be held on February 11, 2023, at the American Legion Hall. Doors open at 6:45 pm. The Krewe of MCCA XLII will roll in its annual parade on February 18, 2023.
