A 24-year-old Kentwood man was being held in the Washington Parish Jail without bond this week following his arrest Sunday on numerous serious charges, including attempted murder.
Damain Barnes was arrested early Sunday by Franklinton police officers after a vehicle and foot chase.
The incident started at 3:45 a.m. on Sunday when Franklintin officers were dispatched to Riverside Medical Center because a woman was involved in a violent domestic incident, including being struck in the head with a pistol.
After learning that the suspect was Barmes, officers headed to Bene Street in an arttempt to arrest him at a house. Once at the Bene Street house, officers saw bullet holes and blood throughout the residence.
While still investigating the incident, a vehicle drove past and officers realized Barnes was driving it. They gave chase, and Barnes crashed in the 900 block of Bene Street.
He jumped out of the crashed vehicle and fled on foot.
Not long afterwards, he was reported walking on Highway 25 north of Franklinton.
When Franklinton officers spotted Barnes and tried to arrest him, he jumped off the Hays Creek bridge and fled.
But the officers chased him through thick brush and along the creek and finally cuaght him.
He was taken to the jail where he was booked on the following charges:
1. Attempted 2nd degree murder
2. Aggravated 2nd degree battery
3. Domestic abuse strangulation
4. Aggravated assault with firearm
5. Home invasion
6. Illegal use of dangerous weapon and instrumentalities
7. Obliterated serial number on firearm
8. Aggravated flight
9. Resisting an officer.
His case will now proceed through the judicial system and, if indicted by the grand jury, he will face trial on the numerous charges.
